Who writes Hairstyle Edit

Hairstyle Edit is written by a small editorial team rather than by one person.

That's a deliberate choice. Hair is a wide subject — a good colourist is not automatically the right person to explain a clipper fade, and someone who has spent years working with curls will tell you things a generalist never would. So different articles here are written by different people, each writing about what they actually know.

What stays the same is the standard.

Every article here follows the same rules:

Tested or sourced — never neither. Styling and product guidance comes from real testing, and we say what was tested, on which hair type, for how long, and what happened. Technical claims about hair structure or chemistry are sourced, with the source named. Nothing here is published because other sites say it.
Failures get reported too. If a style dropped by lunchtime or a product did nothing, that goes in. A test is only useful if the bad results are included.
Specifics instead of adjectives. Minutes, temperatures, lengths, prices with the date attached. "Long-lasting" means nothing; "held through a nine-hour day on fine hair, needed re-pinning at hour six" means something.
Honest maintenance. Any cut or colour we recommend comes with how it grows out, how often it needs redoing, and roughly what that costs — with a note that prices vary a lot by region.
"We don't know" is a publishable answer. A surprising amount of hair advice is folklore passed between websites. Where the evidence is thin, we say so instead of repeating it.
Every texture gets real technique. Fine, thick, wavy, curly, coily and grey hair are not variations on a default — they get their own methods. Where a writer hasn't tested something on a particular texture, the article says so rather than guessing.

A few things you won't find here.

No "anti-ageing." Grey hair is a choice with three legitimate routes — cover it, blend it, grow it out — and all three get honest timelines. No "flattering," no "problem areas," no telling anyone what is or isn't appropriate for their age. Face-shape guidance is an orientation, never a rule, because heads don't read style guides.

And some firm limits, because this subject has real safety stakes.

We're hair people, not doctors. Sudden or patchy hair loss, scalp conditions, persistent itching or any reaction goes to a dermatologist, promptly — we don't diagnose, we don't recommend treatments or supplements, and we don't make hair-growth claims.

Bleaching, multi-level lightening, colour correction, rescuing box dye, relaxers, perms and chemical straightening belong in a salon. You won't find home instructions for any of them here. What you'll find instead is what the process actually involves, roughly what it costs, how many appointments it takes, and how to walk into a consultation knowing what to ask for.

And wherever colour comes up: a 48-hour allergy test before every application, a strand test every time, and a clear warning that henna and metallic-salt products can react dangerously with bleach and oxidative colour — which is why your stylist needs to know about henna even if it was years ago.

Corrections are public. When we get something wrong, the page says what changed and when. If you've spotted an error, tell us.
